Super Blah Sunday

I wish I felt better.  I wish I didn't spend the day huddled in a hoodie on my parents couch with a sore throat and sinus pain.

It wasn't a bad day for all of that, though.  It was just uninspired.  We watched the Puppy Bowl, we ate dinner, we drove home, we watched the tail end of the Super Bowl.  Curt watched all of it, I couldn't care less about pro football.  I just huddled.

We watched some TV after, too, the baby was up so we watched a show or 2, man, I am going to miss 30 Rock.  What would we do without OnDemand?  How did people handle their favorite shows ending before Netflix?

Not my most out there and boundary-pushing day, but you have to fall back sometimes.  You have to have unspectacular days now and then where you pull the blanket to your chin and hibernate.

It's part of a healthy lifestyle, total shutdown magic brain time.  You can't do it every day, or maybe even every week, but you need days where you don't have to make tough decisions or learn something challenging, days to just reabsorb yourself in your own minutia for an afternoon and let the kids run a little wild.  They're fed.  They're not in bodily harm.  It doesn't hurt if they run a little crazily through the house.  They're having fun.  They're watching junk TV a bit.  They're snacking more often than usual.  It's okay.  They'll be wearing matching clothing with their hair brushed and orderly structured meals tomorrow.

I'm not a massively strict parent, but I know on weekdays I crack down about bedtime.  On weekdays I start thinking about dinner as I take Q to school in the morning.  On weekdays, we brush our hair before school and after baths.  On weekdays, we wear socks in their matched pairs.

Not today.  Today, I curled up around a pillow and let them dance and sing through all of the Puppy Bowl and Dad made chili and cornbread for dinner, but I don't know what Q had for lunch.  Macaroni, maybe.  I slept in.  Til lunch.  Leeloo was in the crib asleep, it didn't hurt us to get a little extra rest and Q was fed and happy.  I do know she had at least 1 pudding cup with sprinkles on it.  I have to assume she also ate multiple string cheeses and drank a trillion glasses of juice.

Not sweating it.

I am going to crash out now, I think.  Maybe have a big glass of water.  Try and kick this thing.
That's the thing about downtime, you need to also have uptime.  Tomorrow needs to be that uptime where I run on the treadmill, plan out dinner at 8:15 am, and match any pairs of socks I can.  To be out of the swing of things for a bit means there has to BE a swing of things.

So, there is that.
